Avatar

I've been excited about this movie for awhile. It's Cameron returning to sci-fi after many years. The final verdict: amazing.

The cgi in this movie was amazing. Was it the awe inspiring movie changing effects that we were promised? No.But it was still breathtaking and one of the best 3d films I've ever seen. I hate 3d movies that abuse the gimmick of throwing things at the screen. The 3d in Avatar enhances your perception of the movies environments. It's very subtle, and hard to explain how it does this, but you'll just have to take my word for it and see it yourself. The cgi/3d really made the "outside” scenes believable. When watching this movie, you will feel immersed in the planet of Pandora.

The action sequences were amazing as well. There aren't too many which is a nice change of pace from the recent big budget action films. The big climatic air battle is one of the best I’ve seen in awhile. The camerawork is just breathtaking.

I loved the musical score. James Horner used the alien language to create some very enchanting pieces of music. The score for the final battle uses a mix of fast paced drums, violins, and the good old evil chanting.

The acting for the most part was good. The two main actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana really play really well off of each other. All of the other actors are great as well; Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Stephen Lang, Joel Morre. Stephen Lang, in particular plays a great villain. He’s just so over the top that he’s fun to watch. He gets in a knife fight with a mech, need I say more? My only complaint is that a few of the characters weren't well developed so I didn't really care for them.

I don't really have anything else to say other than get your ass to a theater and see this movie. If you only see one 3d movie this year, this should be it.

On a side note..I seem to be a better reviewer when I do bad movies...
